Do you want to strengthen your readiness to ensure the continuity and prioritization of sexual, reproductive, maternal, and newborn health services during major disease outbreaks in humanitarian settings? With support from USAID’s Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance, the READY initiative is offering its Outbreak Readiness and Response: Prioritizing Sexual, Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn Health (SRMNH) Services in Humanitarian Settings training on May 15 - 18th and May 22 – 25th, 2023 in Cox’s Bazaar, Bangladesh. There is no fee to attend this training and a certificate will be provided upon completion.
What
The aim of this training is to equip participants with the operational knowledge and skills to ensure the continuity, quality, and safety of healthcare for women and girls of reproductive age and their newborns during an infectious disease outbreak in humanitarian settings. The training will guide participants through the necessary multi-sectoral interventions and activities required to ensure key SRMNH considerations are integrated across the outbreak response pillars using interactive exercises and case studies.
Training Delivery and Approach
• Three one-hour virtual sessions (Zoom) on foundational topics (in late April/early May)
• 5 days of in-person trainings in Cox’s Bazar
• Scenario-based approach, with case studies and interactive group exercises
• This is a pilot training; participants will be asked for feedback.
Learning Objectives
By the end of the training, individuals will be able to:
• Explain the barriers that women, girls, and newborns face during outbreaks in humanitarian contexts
• Outline key coordination structures for infectious disease outbreak response
• Describe which actions personnel involved in health program management can take to ensure readiness to maintain essential SRMNH services and to ensure response actions consider SRMNH needs of the population
• Apply SRMNH guidance documents and strategies for engagement of key actors and other readiness activities in their own context
Who
This training is designed for individuals from NGOs working in the health sector that are operating in Bangladesh. Ministry of Health officials, UN agencies, and national midwifery associations are also encouraged to apply.
Mandatory
- Ability to commit to all in-person time commitments
- Ability to participate in written and spoken English
- READY is welcoming applications from individuals operating in Bangladesh only.
There will also be three, one-hour virtual pre-training sessions in late April/early May (based on participant availability). While participation is not mandatory, it will be strongly encouraged so that all participants are best placed to learn at the start of the in-person session.
Funding
The training is free of charge. READY will support tea breaks and lunch for all four days of training. Please note: READY has limited funding available to support travel and/or accommodation costs for local/national organizations for those traveling from outside of Cox’s Bazaar. This funding will be considered on an as-needed basis and requests for support can be made on the application form.
