With over 60 million people displaced around the world due to conflicts and disasters, and with the severity and frequency of humanitarian emergencies increasing, the sector is facing significant challenges.
The Centre for Humanitarian Leadership (CHL) is seeking to address some of these challenges through our Teaching, Research and Innovation work, and we are now able to offer a limited number of research scholarships.
Call for Proposals
We are calling for Higher Degree research project proposals from suitably qualified academics, practitioners and higher-degree research students with a keen interest in contributing to leading-edge research in the humanitarian sector.
Proposals should relate to the CHL’s thematic research area of humanitarian leadership. This is understood in a broad sense incorporating people, organisations and systems.
Research proposals that focus on leading more effectively through improving systems, human factors or technology are particularly encouraged, as are those with a focus on improving humanitarian response in the Asia-Pacific region.
Proposals will include an overview of the research rationale, the central research question or hypothesis, proposed research methodology, work plan and budget.
Two research scholarships supported by the IKEA Foundation with in-kind support from the CHL and its partner organisations are available for award, each with a value of $25,000AUD per annum with a three year maximum.
Applicants seeking additional funding or partnerships arrangements to undertake the research should specify this within their proposal.
Successful applicants will be enrolled as a Higher Degree by Research candidate at Deakin University, Melbourne, Australia.
Eligibility
This call for proposals is open to individuals who meet Deakin University’s PhD entry requirements and who are eligible to study in Australia or apply for a student visa.
More information regarding eligibility to study at Deakin University as a higher degree research student is available at www.deakin.edu.au.
Eligible candidates can use the scholarship as a tax-free stipend to cover living costs. International applicants may choose to use scholarship funds toward student fees and should note any intention to do so within their proposal.
Applicants must be available to begin studies in July 2016 or earlier and contribute on a full-time basis for the project duration.
